Epic and Live Design Announce Second Annual Redden Awards

Marc Raymond, chairman & CEO of Epic Production Technologies, along with David Johnson, publisher of Live Design, have announced that Epic will again be sponsoring three major lighting design awards to be given at this year’s LDI Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 23 in Las Vegas.

The Redden Award for Excellence in Lighting Design, first awarded at LDI in 2009, was named in honor of the late Craig Redden who was a vice president at Epic at the time of his sudden passing in 2008. Raymond says the Redden Award is meant to set the bar for outstanding achievement each year in concert, theatre and event lighting design. “By partnering with David Johnson and his team at Live Design, we are confident that every deserving candidate is considered and truly remarkable work is honored.”

Naming the award after Craig Redden is a way for Epic to keep their friend and colleague’s name and spirit alive within the industry. “Craig really embodied our belief that designers are the most important people in this business and he would be so excited by the amazing work all of the recipients are doing. He truly loved working with designers and it is particularly meaningful for us to see his name become synonymous with design achievement”. Redden began his lighting career in 1978 and grew from a seasoned techie and road warrior into a senior manager and highly respected account rep.

In 2008 Craig was VP of Rentals at Q1 Production Technologies when the company merged with Ed & Ted’s Excellent Lighting to form Epic Production Technologies. Craig was looking forward to new and exciting challenges with the newly formed Epic including a move with his wife and two children to California. His passing was a tremendous loss to his beloved family and his many close friends and associates throughout the industry.

The 2010 Redden Award for Excellence will be given in three separate design categories, Concert, Theatre, and Corporate/Event Lighting. This year’s recipients, chosen by the editors of Live Design, are:

Theatre: Neil Austin, 2010 Tony Award winner for Red;

Concert: Steve Cohen, Seth Jackson and Bryan Barancik for Star Wars: In Concert;

Corporate/Event: Emanuel Treeson of Nyx Design for the Microsoft press presentation at E3 in 2010.
