Tony Award–winning lighting designer Jules Fisher and legendary sound designer Abe Jacob will be in the spotlight as keynote speakers at the 10th annual EDDY Award celebration. Sponsored by Entertainment Design, the annual EDDY Awards honor outstanding contributions in the field of entertainment design and technology. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 7:00pm, followed by the award ceremony at 8:30pm, on Friday, December 7, 2001, at John Jay College Theatre (899 10th Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets) in New York City. This special 10th anniversary EDDY event includes a tribute to all past winners, and a special salute to a talented group of young designers.
"It is a great honor to have two of the theatre’s finest designers kick off this event that celebrates excellence in entertainment design and technology. Both Fisher and Jacob are innovators in their respective fields, and time and again have broken new ground," says David Barbour, editorial director of Entertainment Design and Lighting Dimensions magazines. Fisher has worked closely with both magazines over the past few years as creative consultant for the Broadway Lighting Master Classes, while Jacob has consulted on the future establishment of concurrent Broadway Sound Master Classes.
The 2001 EDDY Award winners are:
- Acme Sound Partners—Tom Clark, Mark Menard, and Nevin Steinberg—
for their dynamic theatrical sound design on such shows as The Full Monty, Bells Are Ringing, The Seagull, and the upcoming Dracula: The Musical. This award will be presented by Abe Jacob;

Projection/video designers Batwin + Robin, AKA Linda Batwin and Robin Silvestri, for their creative design work on such productions as The Rocky Horror Show;

The design and technical team for the Seattle Opera production of the Ring Cycle, including set designer Thomas Lynch, costume designer Martin Pakledinaz, lighting designer Peter Kaczorowski, technical director Robert D. Schaub, associate technical director Robert F. Reynolds, scenic studio manager Michael Moore, master scenic artist Kitty Kavanaugh, fire designer and flight technical director Charles T. Buck, hair and makeup designer Denise O'Brien, and costume shop manager Lise Schellman;

Costume designer Arianne Phillips and hair/makeup designer Mike Potter for their outstanding work on the film version of John Cameron Mitchell’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch
- ShowMotion,
and company president Bill Mensching, for the high-tech engineering, sophisticated motion control, steel and wood fabrication, and the building, painting, and electrifying of scenic elements;
- Willie Williams
for his creative role on U2’s current Elevation tour.
