Outstanding People and Products Win 2001 EDDY Awards
The 10th annual EDDY Awards, presented by Entertainment Designmagazine on Friday, December 7, 2001, in New York City, honored excellence in the fields of innovative design, technical achievement, and professional sound and lighting product development. A large crowd was on hand to applaud the winners and celebrate the great diversity of talent working in this industry today.

"We had people fly in from across the country to attend," notes Jacqueline Tien, the publisher of Entertainment Design and Lighting Dimensions magazines. "This was a very special occasion for our magazines and the EDDY Awards, and we are extremely pleased that the industry was there in full force to support the winners. After the success of LDI 2001 in Orlando, this was a great way to celebrate the strength of our industry. " CEO Tom Rogers and Dave Ferm were also in attendance, representing Primedia and Primedia Business Magazines & Media.

The EDDY Awards also reflect the international nature of our industry, and the international scope of Entertainment Design and Lighting Dimensions. International guests included David Higgins and Mary Lou Higgins from Pathway Connectivity, and Bob Doyle of Klark Teknik Group PLC, representatives of EDDY Award-winning product manufacturers. Other international representatives came from as far away as Martin Professional in Denmark and from Great Britain, including Catherine Owens, who accepted the 2001 EDDY Award for Willie Williams, who appeared via video from England.

Entertainment Design editor David Johnson served as master of ceremonies for the evening, which featured keynotes by Tony Award-winning lighting designer Jules Fisher and by Abe Jacob, the "godfather" of theatrical sound design. "It was great having such dignitaries as Jules and Abe on hand to frame this special EDDY anniversary celebration," Johnson notes. "We had an incredible group of winners, both people and products, representing many facets of our industry from sound, projection, and lighting to makeup, costumes, and technical wizardry for film, Broadway, concerts, and opera. What a year."

Legendary sound designer Abe Jacob presented a 2001 EDDY Award to Acme Sound Partners, whose principals are Tom Clark, Mark Menard, and Nevin Steinberg;

General director of the Seattle Opera Speight Jenkins presented a 2001 EDDY Award to the design and technical team for the Seattle Opera production of the Ring Cycle;

John Cameron Mitchell, award-winning creator and star of both the stage and screen versions of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, presented a 2001 EDDY Award to the film's costume designer Arianne Phillips and hair/makeup designer Mike Potter;

Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe, artistic director of the New York Shakespeare Festival/Joseph Papp Public Theatre in New York City, presented a 2001 EDDY Award to video/projection designers Batwin + Robin, AKA Linda Batwin and Robin Silvestri;

Architect/scenic designer David Rockwell of the Rockwell Group and designer of the sets for the current revival of The Rocky Horror Show, presented a 2001 EDDY Award to the scenic construction company ShowMotion and company president Bill Mensching;

A special video presentation by The Edge of rock band U2 was shown as part of the 2001 EDDY Award to Willie Williams, designer and creative director of U2's current Elevation tour.
