Deakins wins ASC Award

DP Roger Deakins won the American Society of Cinematographers Award Sunday night for The Man Who Wasn't There. Deakins, who was nominated for a Best Cinematography Oscar last week his work on the Coen Bros.' black-and-white film noir, previously won the ASC Award for 1994's The Shawshank Redemption.

TV honors in the Century Plaza Hotel ceremony went to Thomas A. Del Ruth, also winning his second ASC Award for the NBC series The West Wing; Denis Lenoir, for the NBC miniseries Uprising; and Steven Fierberg, for the USA miniseries Attila. Lifetime Achievement Awards went to cinematographers Laszlo Kovacs and Douglas Slocombe, while director Stanley Donen received the ASC Board of Governors Award. Steadicam inventor Garret Brown was honored with the ASC Presidents Award. Graduate students Diego Quemada-Diez and Armando Salas shared the Robert Surtees Heritage Award.
