Special Report: CLUB ROUNDUP
INNOVATIVE CLUB DESIGNS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, INCLUDING:

AGEHA
Tokyo's newest hotspot—it opened New Year's Eve, and is a spectacular space that holds 3,400 clubgoers. American rave king Guy Smith is the LD, using gear from Martin, ETC, and James Thomas Engineering. Smith also discusses the cultural collisions that occur when a US designer works with an all-Japanese crew.

SOUND BAR
Making a big noise in Chicago is this new club, featuring 20,000 sq. ft. of multilevel fun, including a 4,000-sq.-ft. dance floor, nine bars, and four private boutique lounges. Includes equipment from High End Systems, Elation, Coemar, and Martin.

SEACRETS
Check out this piece of Jamaica in Ocean City, MD, a new installation powered by gear from American DJ and Elation.

ABSOLUT
This unique Italian club comes with Clay Paky lighting, a sleek architectural design, and an outdoor rest area—complete with beds!

THEATRE/OPERA

La Bohème
The buzz is all about Baz, as Mr. Luhrmann, of Moulin Rouge fame, takes Broadway by storm with his sexy revival of Puccini's most famous opera. LD Nigel Levings, perhaps Australia's most eminent LD, tells Ellen Lampert-Gréaux all about collaborating with Baz and his wife, production designer Catherine Martin. The equipment list includes gear from Vari-Lite, High End Systems, ETC, Altman, Strand, Lighting & Electronics, Lycian, Wybron, Bowen, MDG, and Rosco.

TECHOLOGY

The Peking Acrobats Tour Road Test
Intrepid LD Rusty Strauss put together a varied rig of units from several companies for his latest tour of the Peking Acrobats. His aim: To test how the gear performs under real-world conditions. In Part I of his two-part report, he introduces his equipment choices. They include products from Studio Due, Robe America, SGM, Yoke Scan, Coemar, and Martin.

PRODUCT REVIEW

ETC Emphasis
You've seen it demonstrated at LDI, PLASA, and elsewhere. People have been talking about for over a year. But does it really work? LDs take a hard look at ETC's all-in-one design/control/record-keeping concept and tell what they really think.

THE BUSINESS
Product Pebbles, by Stan Schwartz. Several months ago, we discussed the products that shook up the industry. Now a leading industry figure offers his response, making the case that the most influential products are sometimes not the obvious choices.
