Color Kinetics Donates LED Systems to Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama

Color Kinetics Inc.

today announced the donation of LED-based illumination systems to Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama. The School of Drama will apply the lighting systems to its theatrical design program, which studies and applies the use of lighting to enhance productions. This represents Color Kinetics' first major gift of its kind to a theatrical program and reflects ongoing progress in theatrical applications of LED illumination systems.

"With strong ties to Carnegie Mellon, we're thrilled to contribute intelligent LED illumination technology for design students' hands-on experimentation with light and effects," said George Mueller, chairman and CEO of Color Kinetics. "Color Kinetics equips the entertainment and theatre industries with unlimited creative potential in the use of light to convey desired moods, and in extending this capability to the distinguished Carnegie Mellon community, we're pleased to help keep students on the leading edge in production and design." Color Kinetics was founded in 1997 by Carnegie Mellon alumni Mueller and Dr. Ihor Lys, CTO. Today the company employs a number of Carnegie Mellon alumni in the areas of management and engineering.

Founded in 1914, Carnegie Mellon's School of Drama combines rigorous, world-class training for the theatre with thorough preparation for all of the various media in which theatre artists may thrive, including the fields of film, television, and radio. The use of Color Kinetics' LED illumination systems will enable design students to create wide-ranging moods and scenes with millions of colors and lighting effects, based on Color Kinetics' patented Chromacore® technology.

Elizabeth Bradley, head of Carnegie Mellon's School of Drama said, "The Color Kinetics donation is a good example of the School of Drama's commitment to collaborating with high-quality companies to enhance all aspects of the theatrical experience. We value their donation and look forward to working with them in the future."
