In mid-August, singer-songwriter and Phish guitarist, Trey Anastasio, performed two concerts at The Beacon Theatre on Manhattan's Upper West Side where the audience got a preview of a new sound system. Dubbed Sphere Immersive Sound, the sysyem was developed jointly between MSG and Germany-based HOLOPLOT, known for directional speakers, for the new, $1.8b, Sphere at The Venetian in Las Vegas.

Stuart Elby "We are turning the venue into a speaker"

The system is designed to adjust the soundfield into zones where wavefield synthesis technology can be used to recreate audio objects and move them in real-time, all from the same loudspeaker array. This should allow anyone moving through a venue to hear different things at different points with greater accuracy, creating an immersive audio experience

Billed as a “multisensory” venue, the MSG Sphere will use Holoplot’s 3D beamforming technology when it opens in 2023. To hear the system before then,
