Available Light And Ted Mather Lighting Design Merge

Award-winning lighting design firms Available Light and Ted Mather Lighting Design(TMLD) have announced that they are merging operations effective immediately. Moving forward as Available Light, this merger brings clients easier access to an even broader array of lighting design capabilities and technical innovation.

With offices in Boston and New York, the new firm combines the talents of 14 lighting design and support professionals with more than 70 years of design experience, boldly applying theatrical lighting techniques to traditionally non-theatrical environments. The merger leverages TMLD’s track record in theatrical, entertainment, and museum exhibition lighting design with Available Light’s years of innovation in performance, architecture, museum exhibition, and corporate communication lighting.

“Our companies have long been ‘friendly competitors,’ but we only recently realized that together we have so much more to offer current and new clients. We have a great mix of diversely experienced designers who will collaborate to expand the boundaries of Available Light’s design work,” says Steven Rosen, president and principal of Available Light. “And, our New York clients can tap into Available Light’s significantly deeper talent pool, now often located only a subway’s ride away.”

“This merger makes sense for everyone involved,” says Mather, a new principal and managing partner of the Available Light office in New York. “Now we can offer clients a new level of design and technical expertise—from rock and roll style extravaganzas for corporate events to thoughtful, immersive, and creative treatments for museums, and from complex daylighting studies and photometric calculations for architects to state-of-the-art lighting systems for trade show clientele.”
