Arvydas Buinauskas of AB Light lighted up the night for an iconic Jessica Shy who did her career's greatest gig at the largest stadium in Lithuania.
An accomplished Lithuanian lighting designer Arvydas Buinauskas is known for his impressive work in live performances and events. Jessica Shy is a well-known Lithuanian singer and songwriter. Together, they collaborated on a live concert in Kaunas, Lithuania, where Buinauskas was responsible for the light design and scenography of the performance.
Thirty-eight thousand people attended the sold-out event in Kaunas' stadium, a record number of tickets for a Lithuanian musician or group. At this stadium earlier this month, only British pop star Ed Sheeran has so far drawn a slightly greater crowd.
The concert at the Kaunas Stadium was not inferior to the show of the brightest foreign stars in terms of ambition and visual solutions, light and sound equipment meeting world standards and special effects.
The show light design concept was a bold and unconventional exploration of contrast and intensity, aimed at revealing the darker, more introspective side of the singer. Tasked with creating a visual concept that captured the essence of Jessica's powerful and slightly darker side, Buinauskas drew inspiration from the majestic strength of mountains and the raw texture of rocks.
The centerpiece of the stage was a striking 30-meter square screen, much higher than the stadium roof structures and designed to defy traditional symmetry. Rotated and tilted, the screen introduced a sense of imbalance and tension, mirroring the complex emotions in Jessica’s music.
Asymmetry was a key element in the overall design, with lights positioned at sharp angles, creating stark contrasts and jagged shadows that cut across the stage. These angular light beams, coupled with dark, moody hues, formed an almost surreal atmosphere, emphasizing the raw and edgy aspects of the performance. The rotating screen functioned as a backdrop and a dynamic element, changing viewpoints and keeping the audience on edge, while the lighting was more than just an accessory—it was an essential component of the story, leading the audience through a visual trip that reflected the depth of the music.
By using the light and shadows, Buinauskas enhanced the visual experience of a concert, making the show even more immersive and memorable for the audience.
Fireworks being lit up, stylish video projections skillfully combined with the live image of the show, dancers moving with energy, and a long podium extending into the audience—the event seemed incredibly well-planned from the outset.
A few of the concert's decisions caught the crowd off surprise. For instance, several songs were performed with the artist standing on a transparent panel that allowed footage to be captured from below and at the same time projected onto the big screen.
The unforgettable evening was wrapped up by firework shots fired from the stadium stands' roof and showers of confetti.
The performance of Jessica Shy, the most listened to and loved Lithuanian singer, was the only concert of the artist this year. Earlier this year, singer earned six most prestigious Lithuanian music scene awards. Her third album "Sutemos", released three months ago, like the previous two, immediately shot to the top of the charts of the most listened records. At the end of last year, the 28-year-old artist organized a tour through the biggest arenas in Lithuania, for which all the tickets were immediately sold out.
