Artec Consultants Inc.( www.artec-usa.com) has added Paul Lapinski to its New York-based staff. Lapinski, who will serve as executive vice president of the performing-arts design consultant firm, has 15 years of experience with various American opera companies, including the Palm Beach Opera, the Greater Miami Opera Association/Florida Opera, the Pittsburgh Opera, and the Opera Company of Philadelphia.
As general director for the Palm Beach Opera (from 200-2001), he was chief executive and operating officer, responsible for all operational and administrative functions of the company as well as planning development for the design of a 1,500-seat dedicated opera house. At the Greater Miami Opera Association, Lapinski served as director of production from 1989-90, most notably serving as the users groups rep for the planning and development of the Greater Miami-Dade Performing Arts Center project. Later, as assistant general director, he assisted in the execution of the merger of the Opera Guild of Ft. Lauderdale and the Miami Opera Association to form the Florida Grand Opera. He managed the company's personnel, facilities, and artistic administration from 1990 to 2000.
From 1987-89, Lapinski was production manager at the Pittsburgh Opera, planning and executing the company's first season at the newly renovated Benedum Center for the Performing Arts. He also served as production manager at the Opera Company of Philadelphia from 1986-87.
From 1985-86, he was the general manager of the Repertory Theatre Company of Bucks County in Bristol, PA. Lapinski has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Communications from Temple University. He was a member of the AGMA National Regional Opera Master Agreement Negotiating Committee, as well as the IATSE Local 545 Pension, Health, and Welfare Trust Board.
Current major projects on the table at Artec include: concert hall/opera house facilities in Kansas City, MO, Costa Mesa, CA, and Miami-Dade County; Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York; the Esplanade, a concert hall/opera house in Singapore; and the National Philharmonic Concert Hall in Budapest, Hungary.
