Aggreko Announces Four-Year Contract With The USGA

Aggreko, supplier of temporary power and temperature control systems, announced that it has been awarded the contract to provide a temporary power and cooling package for United States Golf Association’s (USGA) 2006-2009 US Open Championships.

Aggreko will provide portable air conditioning and power equipment for the nearly 300,000sq. ft. of tent space associated with the US Open. The massive tents house the media compound, the 130,000 sq.ft. corporate tent village, the merchandise pavilion, the Trophy Club, and the Champions Pavilion. Aggreko will keep patrons cool and comfortable with its newly designed special event air conditioners, and will provide electricity for the tents’ lighting, entertainment, catering, and business services.

The company’s nationwide service centers will provide: generators that produce enough electricity to power 2,500 offices; more than 60 miles of electrical cables, or the equivalent of 15 golf courses; more than 2,400 20A, 120V receptacles for the caterers, televisions and tent lights; and enough air conditioning to cool 300 offices.

Aggreko has a history of providing temporary power and temperature control equipment to golf’s “Grand Slam” tournaments, such as the PGA Championship. The company’s European business also recently entered into a three-year agreement with the Royal & Ancient Golf Club to supply temporary power and air conditioning to the Open Championship, more commonly known as the British Open. Aggreko also routinely supports some of the world’s largest sporting events, including multiple Olympic Games and Super Bowls.

“We are very proud to once again be a part of the US Open tradition,” says Gary Meador, national events manager of Aggreko’s event services division. “We have worked with the USGA in the past, but recently re-established the relationship.”

Frank Bussey, field operations director for the USGA, states, “Aggreko has done a great job for us in the past and we are looking forward to working with them again in the future.”

The 2006- 2009 US Open tournaments will be held at:

  • 2006 – Winged Foot, Mamaronek, NY
  • 2007 – Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, PA
  • 2008 – Torrey Pines Golf Course, La Jolla, CA
  • 2009 – Bethpage State Park, Farmingdale, NY

Included among the equipment utilized at the championship tournaments are Aggreko’s SuperHush generators, which incorporate new advances in spill containment, silencing and emissions; EnviroTank fuel tanks that virtually eliminate the possibility of an internal fuel spill, even if the unit is turned over; HushPAC portable air conditioners; and its UL-listed portable outdoor electrical distribution equipment.
