31 Days Of Plots 2021 Lighting

Live Design's fourth annual 31 Days Of Plots features one production per day during the month of December 2021, highlighting a different lighting design, from across theatre, concert tours, corporate events, live for broadcast, and more, as we wind down 2021 and head toward the new year.

Day 11 of 31 Days Of Plots 2021 takes us to the Noordung Space Centre in Slovenia for a special corporate event with lighting designed by Crt Birsa of Blackout. "This was an elite corporate streaming event for a high end client. The venue itself is a museum of space science and it is also built like some kind of a flying saucer. Placement of the fixtures and rigging is very difficult there, basically it is more or less impossible. Just the ground floor is built in the same level. The first floor is just stairs and so it is very difficult to place a truss over the hole in the middle of the venue. And the hole is basically the only place where some back lights can come in, because the clearance of the venue would be too low if the hole was not there. So we built everything around the hole that is in the middle of the space,"says the LD.

"There was a truss with six Robe Robin MegaPointes that were mainly used for backlight, and we hung the Astera Titan Tubes from the fence almost around the whole circle (270 degrees). We did the same with the Robe Robin Parfects which were sitting on the top of the fence. Also some key lights were at the downstage position of the circle. The ground floor was reserved for floor lights and LED screens. The 12 Showtec Sunstrips were mounted on the vertical trusses behind the central LED screen so we could get a nice additional punch when needed. An additional eight Astera tubes were sitting on the floor, because we had a camera on the balcony for some top views. Color-wise we were keeping close to the cold color scheme because the identity of the event was outer space and futuristic progress, except for the Luka Sulic & Evgeny Genchew concert, which was after the official part of the event. It took two days to make the lighting plot, two days to pre-program, and two days for setup and the event," Birsa points out.
