Live Design's fourth annual 31 Days Of Plots features one production per day during the month of December 2021, highlighting a different lighting design, from across theatre, concert tours, corporate events, live for broadcast, and more, as we wind down 2021 and head toward the new year.
Day 18 of 31 Days Of Plots goes on tour with Pitbull, whose I Feel Good Tour was lit by LD Yamil Charif and YC3 Lighting Design. Charif used a mix of fixtures (see gear list below), supplied by Miami-based LPS Production, who also supplied video and rigging. YC3's lighting philosophy is to be to be ecologically aware and cost-efficient, what they believe is an integral part of good design. The look for the tour is immersive with large video images integrated with Charif's lighting, on a set featuring see-through stairs and large video screens.
Charif is based in Miami, Florida, where he moved as a teenager. He and his brothers were inspired by two generations of their family to become the third involved in the entertainment industry. Their passion for the industry driven by their father Daniel Charif, who served as a production coordinator for the Pitbull tour.
Some the workhorse fixtures on the tour, the overhead MegaPointes alternate with strobes that were also used for wash lighting. The stark contrast between the two light sources added to the general depth and texture achieved with a relatively small rig.
