31 Days Of Plots: Art In Motion

Live Design's fourth annual 31 Days Of Plots features one production per day during the month of December 2021, highlighting a different lighting design, from across theatre, concert tours, corporate events, live for broadcast, and more, as we wind down 2021 and head toward the new year.

Day 8 of 31 Days of Plots 2021 features Emily Bornt's lighting design for "Art in Motion," a temporary install to celebrate the opening of the new shopping center and apartment/business complex on the corner of Fifth and Broadway in Nashville, June 24-July 22, 2021. "I partnered with Amazing Industries, who handled projection and content, and Don't Wonder Productions, who handled logistics and the clients, to light the open area of the shopping center for a nightly presentation of local student art," says Bornt. "The lighting was intended to be an immersive extension of the art being projected on the side of the parking garage, set to music."

Bandit Lites provided techs, labor, rigging/truss, and 151 Elation Sixpar 100s and 10 Ayrton Dominos, both IP rated for the long term outdoor use. "Programming was set up on an MA Lighting grandMA2 OnPC and Command wing, with an onPC node that handled parameters once the command wing was removed after programming was complete. The design of the rig was a long process that involved a lot of previz to make sure beam angles would cover the area evenly, and checking to see that lights would be rigged out far enough to hit their marks beyond any architecture in the way," Bornt notes.
