Jim van Bergen: CSMC Creative Consultant

Live Design expands its Master Classes@LDI with the first annual Concert Sound Master Classes, a three-day, in-depth look at the challenges encountered FOH on concert tours, from audio aesthetics to the architecture of the rig, use of line arrays, digital consoles, and the rigors of life on the road. Jim van Bergen serves as creative consultant.

Sessions with concert sound experts will take place from 9am-12pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 19, 20, and 21 as part of LDI2012 in a dedicated area on the show floor, surrounded by a showcase of cutting-edge gear by leading audio manufacturers. Lunch and private access to the gear from 12pm-2pm daily for CSMC participants, then the showcase opens to all LDI attendees at 2pm.

Jim van Bergen is an audio mixer, sound designer, audio supervisor, and production manager. He's mixed world music, jazz, classical, rock, and pop around the world for audiences from hundreds to the hundred-thousands. From King Herod's Ancient Roman Amphitheatre to clubs, outdoor festivals, New York's most popular venues, and stadiums to the world's finest hockey arenas, he's literally mixed for a revolving door of household names with hundreds of acts, including Dave Brubeck, Betty Carter, Miley Cyrus, The GooGoo Dolls, Hall and Oates, Ramsey Lewis, The Metropolitan Opera, New York Dolls, Nickelback, Sean Paul, Sum41, The Temptations, T.I., Mary Wilson, and many more. For broadcast, he's mixed everything from Itzhak Perlman to the Barenaked Ladies, Britney Spears and Bjork to Smash Mouth, Green Day, Stain'd, and Cold Play.

"I'm very pleased to join up with Live Design and LDI to help host the Concert Sound Master Classes in October. For our attendees, you can expect to hear from, meet and mingle with some of the best and brightest minds (and ears!) in the concert sound world, from the mixers to manufacturers, presented only in Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world," says van Bergen. "It's an honor to work with the other creative consultants for LDI: Steve Cohen for the LDInnovation & Technology Conference, and Abigail Rosen Holmes for the Projection Master Classes. My associates are incredibly talented designers whose work I've appreciated and respected for a long time and I'm very pleased to partner with them in developing a program attendees will find insightful, engaging, and educational for all. We look forward to seeing you there."
