Award-Winning Faculty Announced For Broadway Lighting Master Classes, May 18-20, 2009, At New York University

Jules Fisher, creative consultant for Live Design's Broadway Lighting Master Classes (BLMC) has announced a distinguished faculty of leading lighting designers, all of whom are multiple Tony winners and nominees—including Fisher’s design partner Peggy Eisenhauer, Kevin Adams, Howell Binkley, Beverly Emmons, Donald Holder, Brian MacDevitt, Kenneth Posner. Also participating in this distinguished roster are projection designers Wendall K. Harrington and Peter Nigrini. The 15th edition of the BLMC will be held Monday-Wednesday, May 18-20, 2008 at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University in New York City. Creative consultant for the BLMC since its debut fifteen years ago, Jules Fisher has designed the lighting for more than 150 Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, as well as film, ballet, opera, television, and rock-and-roll concert tours. He has garnered eight Tony Awards, a record in this category, for Pippin (1972), Dancin’ (1978), Ulysses in Nighttown (1974), Grand Hotel (1990), The Will Rogers Follies (1991), Jelly’s Last Jam (1992), Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk (1996), and Assassins (2004), the latter five collaborations with his long-time partner Peggy Eisenhauer. Fisher and Eisenhauer’s theatrical lighting designs, in collaboration with cinematographer Dion Beebe, for the film Chicago were honored with a 2003 Academy Award nomination for cinematography. Other recent performance lighting can be seen in the films Dreamgirls, The Producers, Stepford Wives, Marci "X," and School of Rock. Their studio, Third Eye, conceives and designs lighting for all forms of entertainment, including the recent relighting of Le Reve at The Wynn Resort in Las Vegas.

The BLMC will include a manufacturer's showcase in the Eisner Lubin Auditorium on the fourth floor of NYU's Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, upstairs from the Skirball Center. Leading manufacturers of lighting technology will display cutting-edge products in the showcase on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19 and 20. All attendees receive a ticket to the Broadway musical 9 to 5, with a Q&A in the theatre and a critique of the lighting and projection by the designers as part of the class schedule.
