Sound designer Abe Jacob, considered by many to be the "godfather" of contemporary sound design, serves as creative consultant to the BSMC. He got his start in San Francisco mixing sound for such 60s rock stars as Jimi Hendrix, the Mamas and the Papas, and Peter Paul and Mary, and designed the sound system for the Monterey Pop Festival. A legendary sound designer for theatre and opera, a tireless champion of union representation for his fellow artisans, and a 2000 EDDY Award winner, Jacob designed the sound for such seminal Broadway shows as Jesus Christ Superstar, A Chorus Line, Pippin, Chicago, Cats, and Evita, virtually creating the position of sound designer in the process. In the past 15 years, Jacob has helped secure a charter for sound designers within IATSE (Local 922); and in 1993 he helped the Local achieve its first collective bargaining agreement with the League of American Theatres and Producers. In 1999, he helped merge the sound designers with IATSE Local One.

Creative consultant for the BLMC since its debut, Jules Fisher has designed the lighting for more than 150 Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, as well as film, ballet, opera, television, and rock-and-roll concert tours. He has garnered eight Tony Awards, a record in this category, for Pippin (1972), Dancin’ (1978), Ulysses in Nighttown (1973), Grand Hotel (1990), The Will Rogers Follies (1991), Jelly’s Last Jam (1992), Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk (1996), and Assassins (2004), the latter five collaborations with his long-time partner Peggy Eisenhauer. Fisher and Eisenhauer’s theatrical lighting designs, in collaboration with cinematographer Dion Beebe, on the film Chicago were honored with a 2003 Academy Award nomination for cinematography. Other recent performance lighting can be seen in the films Dreamgirls, The Producers, Stepford Wives, Marci "X," and School of Rock. Their studio, Third Eye, conceives and designs lighting for all forms of entertainment.

Combining top-level professional training and a great networking opportunity, both the BSMC and BLMC include a ticket to a Broadway show, with a post-show discussion in the theatre and a critique of the design the next day in the Classes. The prices for the 20008 classes remain the same as in 2007m with a three-tiered pricing structure for students, association members, and professionals. New this year is an early bird special, with $100 taken off all prices through the end of March.
