Discount Tickets Available To A Catered Affair On Broadway

Projection designer Zachary Borovay and lighting designer Brian MacDevitt will present a case study about their work on the new Broadway musical, A Catered Affair—starring Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, and Harvey Fierstein—as part of the Live Design Projection Master Classes on Monday, May 19 at XL LED Lab in New York City.

Anyone wishing to see the show before attending the case study, can take advantage of a special discount offer of $69.50 per ticket in the orchestra or mezzanine. Tickets can be ordered using the following discount code: CABBX64 either through Telecharge or online at www.broadwayoffers.com.

“Scenery made from light? Light made from scenery?” asks Borovay. “We’ll discuss how we worked together to erase the lines between lighting and projections to create a 1953 Bronx cityscape in A Catered Affair.”

Borovay and MacDevitt will show how they collaborated through the entire process, taking the project’s original inspirations to final product. Attendees will learn about each designer’s artistic contributions to the show and how each utilized both high and low tech practices to create a world on stage that appears natural and intimate. “Anyone who is interested in creating designs that seamlessly flow from one discipline to the next should attend,” says Borovay.

MacDevitt adds of his work on A Catered Affair, “The thing that is really fun and fantastic about this production is that I really felt like, between David Gallo’s sets, Zak Borovay’s projections, and my lighting, you can’t really tell whose is what—just a really good merging of all the designs, really natural and well integrated.” The lighting designer returns Wednesday, May 21st, to present to the Broadway Lighting Master Classes, Visual Aids: Paintings And Photography For Inspiration And Communication In The Theatre.

The Projection Master Classes includes other presentations by leading projection designers and technicians, including Sean Cagney, Marcel DeKeyzer, Bruce Rodgers, David Taylor, Patrick Dierson, Scharff Weisberg’s Lars Pedersen, and programmer Peter Vincent Ackenas, well as a session on Visualization and Playback Options, including coolux Pandoras Box, Green Hippo Hippotizer, grandMA Video, and d3 from UnitedVisualArtists. The day concludes with a networking cocktail party.
