2015 Meyer Sound Scholarships For The New York Sound Master Classes

Meyer Sound and Live Design are pleased to announce that entries may now be submitted for the 2015 John and Helen Meyer Scholarship to the Live Design New York Master Classes: Sound (NYMC), June 5-6, 2015. This will be the fifth year that these scholarships will be awarded, thanks to the generosity of Meyer Sound, to promising sound designers from around the world. A total of six winners will be selected, including undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates (one to three years out of school).

The Meyer Sound Scholarships includes entry to all NYMC Sound sessions and the manufacturers showcase at NYU’s Tisch School Of The Arts, a ticket to see The Sound & The Fury by Elevator Repair Service at The Public Theatre, and special mention on badges for the classes. Winners will also be singled out during the NYMC awards reception on Thursday, June 4, which kicks off the event. Travel andhotel are not included. Live Design and Meyer Sound will select the candidates.

"Theatre sound is at the very roots of Meyer Sound. John Meyer was working with Broadway sound designers even before the company was founded three decades ago, and we have been fortunate to collaborate with many exceptional sound designers and operators. This scholarship gives us a wonderful opportunity to help cultivate the next generation of theatre sound talent," notes Helen Meyer.

Candidates must submit a resume and a short, 300-500-word essay on why they want to attend the classes. Selected candidates will be asked to blog about their experience for the Live Design and Meyer websites.

“Meyer Sound has been an engaged supporter of our sound master classes since day one, and we’re pleased that our partnership for the John and Helen Meyer Scholarships will continue,” says Live Design brand leader David Johnson. “We applaud their ongoing commitment to the next generation of theatre sound designers.”

Interested candidates should submit their resume and essay by Saturday, April 25, to Live Design creative director Ellen Lampert-Gréaux at [email protected]
