2014 Meyer Sound Scholarships For The Broadway Sound Master Classes

Meyer Sound and Live Design are pleased to announce that entries may now be submitted for the 2014 John and Helen Meyer Scholarship to the Live Design Broadway Sound Master Classes (BSMC), June 4-6, 2014. This will be the fourth year that these scholarships will be awarded, thanks to the generosity of Meyer Sound, to promising sound designers from around the world. A total of six winners will be selected, including undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates (one to three years out of school).

The Meyer Sound Scholarship includes entry to all BSMC sessions, a ticket to see Bullets Over Broadway, and special mention of badges for the classes. Winners will also be singled out during the BSMC reception on Thursday, June 5. Travel and accommodations are not included.

"Theatre sound is at the very roots of Meyer Sound. John Meyer was working with Broadway sound designers even before the company was founded three decades ago, and we have been fortunate to collaborate with many exceptional sound designers and operators. This scholarship gives us a wonderful opportunity to help cultivate the next generation of theatre sound talent," notes Helen Meyer.

Candidates will be selected by BSMC creative consultant Abe Jacob, Live Design, and Meyer Sound. Candidates must submit a resume and a short, 300-500-word essay on why they want to attend the classes. Chosen candidates will be asked to blog about their experience for the Live Design and Meyer websites.

“Meyer Sound has been an engaged supporter of the BSMC since day one, and we’re pleased that our partnership for the John and Helen Meyer Scholarships will continue,” Studio Live Design executive director, David Johnson. “We applaud their ongoing commitment to the next generation of theatre sound designers.”

“The John and Helen Meyer Scholarships provide students— past, present and future— the opportunity to attend the Broadway Sound Master Classes and to experience the unique interplay of ideas and implementations going on in the theater today. I am grateful to John and Helen Meyer for their continuing generous support of this event,” says Abe Jacob, creative consultant for the BSMC, who helps select the winners.

Interested candidates should submit a resume and essay by Friday, April 25, to [email protected]
