2007 BLMC Faculty Announced

Jules Fisher, creative consultant for Live Design's Broadway Lighting Master Classes (BLMC) has announced a distinguished faculty of leading lighting designers including Peggy Eisenhauer, Beverly Emmons, Christopher Akerlind, Howell Binkley, Clifton Taylor—plus projection designer Wendall K. Harrington. The 13th edition of the BLMC will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 15-16-17, 2007 at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University in New York City.

Creative consultant for the BLMC since its debut, Jules Fisher has designed the lighting for more than 150 Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, as well as film, ballet, opera, television, and rock-and-roll concert tours. He has garnered eight Tony Awards, a record in this category, for Pippin (1972), Dancin’ (1978), Ulysses in Nighttown (1973), Grand Hotel (1990), The Will Rogers Follies (1991), Jelly’s Last Jam (1992), Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk (1996), and Assassins (2004), the latter five collaborations with his long-time partner Peggy Eisenhauer. Fisher and Eisenhauer’s theatrical lighting designs, in collaboration with cinematographer Dion Beebe, on the film Chicago were honored with a 2003 Academy Award nomination for Cinematography. Other recent performance lighting can be seen in the films Dreamgirls, The Producers, Stepford Wives, Marci "X", and School of Rock. The BLMC will include a manufacturer's showcase in the Eisner Lubin Auditorium on the fourth floor of NYU's Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, upstairs from the Skirball Center. Leading manufacturers of lighting technology will display cutting-edge products in the showcase on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15 and 16. Initial corporate sponsors include: Barco, Martin Professional, Microsoft, and Vari-Lite.

The week of the Broadway Master Classes also includes a one-day Projection Master Classes component on Friday, May 18, and the fifth annual Broadway Sound Master Classes (BSMC) on Saturday, May 19 and 20, at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. The BLMC will attend a Broadway production on Wednesday evening May 16; the BSMC will do the same on Friday evening, May 18. Another special event is the Live Design Honors on Tuesday, May 15, which includes a silent auction and raffle to benefit the ESTA Foundation's Behind The Scenes.
