Who's Doing What

A busy spring/summer is lined up for San Francisco lighting designer Ellen Brooks. Kicking off the season is North Bay Opera's production of Macbeth, followed by Showboat, her 16th production for San Francisco's famed Lamplighters Light Opera Company. Then, Brooks swings into her fifth season with Marin Shakespeare Company and her 10th season designing for 42nd Street Moon…Set designer George Tsypin and lighting designer Don Holder are collaborating on the world premiere of Grendel, Elliot Goldenthal's new opera that will premiere at the Los Angeles Opera on May 27. Julie Taymor directs and designs puppets along with Michael Curry; projection design is by Elaine McCarthy. This production will go on to the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia; Gleb Filshitinsky is the lighting designer…Susanne Sasic is working on lighting design for AOL Sessions, exclusive concerts for online broadcast, designing for the New York area studio shoots as well as the occasional location production…Robert Wilson has designed the staging, décor, and lighting for a new production of Ibsen's Peer Gynt, a co-production of The National Theatre of Bergen, Norway and The Norwegian Theatre of Oslo, Norway, to be seen at Brooklyn Academy of Music April 13 to 16…The Maurice Sendak/Tony Kushner production of two children's operas, Brundibar and Comedy On The Bridge, comes to the New Victory Theatre in New York (April 28 to May 21) in a co-production with Berkeley Rep and Yale Rep. Production design is by Maurice Sendak with Kris Stone, scenic designer, and Don Holder, lighting design…Wagner Media handled projections on six buildings in downtown Houston during the NBA All Star Game, including showing the actual game on downtown screens…Scenic designer Derek McLane and lighting designer Mark Doubleday both made their debuts at New York City Opera with this season's new production of Lysistrata, based on the play by Aristophanes…The Houston Grand Opera is closing its 2005-2006 season with the American premiere of Graham Vicks' production of Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea, with sets and costumes by Paul Brown and lighting by Peter Kaczoroski, both in their Houston Grand Opera debuts. The production opens on April 29…The historic Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb, IL, has brought Alex Nerad on as operations director…Thinkwell Design & Production has been commissioned by Gordon Group Holdings, LLC to create an immersed indoor water spectacular for its newest retail destination, The Pier at Caesars at the Atlantic City Boardwalk…Some designers at Visual Terrain have been promoted. Eileen Thomas is now principal designer, while Jeremy Windle and Edward S. Marks are associate principals.
