Stan Miller wins Wally

Stan Miller of Rosco Laboratories has been elected the winner of the Wally Russell Lifetime Achievement Award for 2000. The award will be presented on Saturday, October 21, at LDI2000 in Las Vegas as part of the LDI Awards ceremony.

CEO and chairman of Rosco Laboratories, a leading supplier of products for theatre, TV, and film production, Miller is the only person ever to be named both a Fellow of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology and a member of the American Society of Cinematographers. He also has served on the Theatre, Television, and Film Lighting Committee of the Illuminating Engineering Society and was elected to the Society of Television Lighting Directors in Canada and the UK. Miller received the Board of Directors Award of the American Society of Lighting Directors, and delivered the keynote address at the 25th anniversary convention of USITT. In 1985, Miller received the USITT Award for Outstanding Service to the American Theatre. Having graduated from Brown University in 1954, Miller served in the US Army until 1956, and acquired Rosco in 1958.

Awarded by a distinguished committee of industry leaders, the "Wally" is presented annually for outstanding achievement in the entertainment technology industry. The award was established in 1992 in memory of industry pioneer Wally Russell, whose often unrecognized impact on the profession was quite profound. He influenced future generations with his perception, and strength of character. Industry professionals selected Miller from a slate of four candidates, each exhibiting a strong sense of leadership, a commitment to technological innovation, and a career of outstanding service and contribution to the industry.
