The reality of virtual lighting: Illuminating a new vista in TV broadcasting

I first became acquainted with virtual technology by accident. I was hired to light a traditional bluescreen shoot for ABC News, and got into a discussion about these composites always looking fake. In my opinion this is due to the background lighting being done by one person, usually a graphic artist, and the foreground lighting being done by someone else, usually a lighting director. In this scenario, these two people never discuss any kind of unifying design concept.
