WYG-GING OUT

CAST Lighting unveils WYG-It, a plug-and-play USB interface enabling PCs running WYSIWYG software to connect with DMX lighting consoles, allowing LDs to access WYSIWYG from the console to cue, visualize, and virtually render productions. Compact and portable, the WYG-It has two DMX ports, a MIDI port, requires no external power supply, is stackable, and many can be used simultaneously. The company says the WYG-It has undergone extensive beta-testing and performed flawlessly at the Juno Awards in Canada. CAST worked with Pathway Connectivity on this product, it was demoed at USITT, and it is now available through Electronic Theatre Controls.

POWER PACKS
Johnson Systems has added two more retrofit products specifically designed for Strand CD80 portable packs. The PT-Pack Professional Touring version exceeds the capabilities of the OEM equipment. Features include opto-isolated DMX in and thru, sealed membrane bump buttons, status LEDs, LCD display with full user-friendly software menu, and digital voltage/frequency display. An economically priced version, the CD-Pack, offers DMX capability with fewer features for more permanent installs and facilities such as churches and schools that need a highly reliable unit without all the added features and advanced capabilities of the PT-Pack, the firm says.

Both models are ETL-approved and designed as direct plug-in units requiring no tools for installation. Rental companies now have the choice of interchangeability for supplying their clients with the appropriate level of technical capability. Both units are designed to operate on 120V or 240V single-phase and three-phase power at 50 or 60Hz, allowing overseas applications.

THE COLORS OF CLAY PAKY
CP Color is a new series of color changers, which adopt a CMY system to create any color tone, by superimposing filters in very pure dichroic glass. They have a uniform mechanical dimmer from 0-100%, to gradually dim the light beam. Both functions can be set automatically (standalone operation) by choosing from a wide range of predetermined values, or controlled using the control unit (DMX512 signal).

The automatic functions are used for inserting fixed colors, selecting the sequence type, and setting the speed. For instance, the color can be created in a linear form with adjustable speed, from two seconds to 10 minutes. Two or more projectors operating in standalone mode can be slowed down differently, by using special selectors: This creates a “wave” of colors along a line of projectors.

The CP Color models can be installed on the floor or on the ceiling and work in any position. All the models have a range of optional diffuser filters that can all be combined. These can diffuse the light beam in an angle from 10°-80°, creating a mix of shades which can be suited to any specific requirement. The special ovalizer filter adds another distinctive element to the projection, Clay Paky reports.

CP Color 150 and CP Color 250, due to their noiselessness, are ideal for theatrical settings, television studios, shops, discos, stage lighting, backdrops, or as footlights, truss lights, and where color plays an important role in scenery. The two projectors differ in discharge lamp power: a 150W CMD-SA/T lamp with an average life of 9,000 hours for model 150 and a 250W HSD lamp with an average life of 2,000 hours for the 250 model. Both have optional revolving barndoors and a diffuser filter holder.

CP Color-E is specially designed for outdoor use, as it has a special structure that guarantees total protection against dust and jets of water (IP65). It is also suited for lighting external architectural elements, such as monuments, columns, fountains, details of facades, and any historical/artistic elements to be enhanced, as well as other urban settings.
