PLASA heads into the millennium

All eyes will be on London this fall, when the annual PLASA show takes place September 5-8 at its regular home of Earls Court. One of the most popular and important dates on the entertainment technology trade show calendar, PLASA always plays host to a bevy of product launches and prototypes. Industry movers and shakers use the show as a prime network opportunity, as well as a chance to check out the latest West End shows. And a variety of ancillary events, held around the convention, add to the interest of the entire event.

There are, of course, special events sponsored by PLASA itself. NSCA will host its famous Technical Fundamentals of Audio (also seen at LDI) September 5-6 at the Earls Court Conference Center. This event is aimed at audio technicians, installers, project managers, designers, and sales professionals. Also, for the first time, the AV Magazine trade convention will be held concurrently with PLASA; it is meant for AV dealers, resellers, distributors, manufacturers, systems installers, and rental and service companies. Dates are September 7-8, also at Earls Court Conference Center.

As always, PLASA will sponsor education and seminar programs, designed to disseminate the latest industry information, and the annual PLASA Awards for product excellence will be handed out on September 8.

Speaking of competitions, DJ Magazine and Gemini Sound Products will again sponsor the DJ Mixing Competition, September 5, in the DJ Lounge, an area for DJ suppliers, services, and record labels. Other special events include the World Light Jockey Contest, sponsored by Pulsar Light of Cambridge, to be held at the London Hippodrome September 6.
