Apollo Design Technology, Inc. Smart Color

Apollo Design Technology, Inc., manufacturer and distributor of custom gobos and other lighting effects products and accessories for the entertainment industry, introduces the Smart Color line of color changers. One operational feature that sets the single-channel Smart Color apart is the continuous, bi-directional scroll mode that does not require a lighting console. Apollo is also offering a unique “package” offer with its new Smart Color scroller: to save the user time and money, Apollo ships Smart Color scrollers with a pre-installed mounting plate and gel shield, and pre-loads the gel string-straight from the box to the light fixture for one price. Manufactured to Apollo specifications based on recommendations from experienced scroller users, Smart Colors are made from lightweight aluminum and utilize precision motor bearings for quiet operation. They are available with 5.25", 7.25", and 10" apertures that maximize light output.

Lex Products Portable GFCI Protector

Lex Products introduces the first portable GFCI protector for dimmable multi-circuit loads. Applications include stage, film, and touring environments, where 6-circuit “multi-cables” are exposed to water or moisture. Providing GFCI protection to dimmable loads is a challenge because the electronics of the GFCI unit needs 115VAC power in order to function. The multi GFCI Protector solves this problem by feeding the GFCI units with a separate non-dimmed 115 VAC circuit. The multi GFCI Protector provides class A (4-6 milliamp trip) GFCI protection to (6) 20 amp 115 VAC circuits. The unit has Lex LSC19 6 circuit input and output connectors; for inline connection to a standard 6-circuit multi-cable. The input and the 6 GFCI protected circuits have indicator lights. The units are UL and cUL (Canada) Listed NEMA 3R weatherproof. The GFCI Protector utilizes a rubber enclosure, which provides shock and weather resistance, is compact and lightweight.

Studer Vista 8 Digital Console

The new Studer Vista 8 Digital Live Production Console represents another leap in ergonomic design and operational ease. Building on the successful platform of the Vista 6 and 7, the Vista 8 similarly incorporates the highly acclaimed Vistonics user interface, but this time has expanded the concept to provide output metering and control in addition to a host of other features. The new control bay design offers more faders in a smaller footprint making it suitable for both fixed install broadcast and remote vehicle applications. In addition, a comprehensive snapshot system and dedicated mute groups make this desk the choice for live performance environments such as concert halls, theatres, and houses of worship. The Vista 8's completely redesigned central control bay has 12 motorized faders and a Vistonics TFT screen with 40 rotary controls that provide directly accessible level controls for up to 52 audio paths, including master, group, or matrix outputs. The new “reverse operation” feature enables the operator to rapidly identify all channels contributing to any master bus and adjust levels instantly. The two faders on the right of the control bay are dedicated as grand masters, and the other 10 faders line up with the 40 rotary controls, as in the channel bays, so that their associated pushbuttons enable SOLO/PFL, MUTE, and TALK to each master output.

Soft-LED Backdrops

I. Weiss introduces SOFT-LED Backdrops in cooperation with Main Light Industries. Soft-LED combines the advantages of LED technology with the flexibility and portability of a fabric drop. Each backdrop contains a grid of tri-color LED nodes that can be individually controlled, resulting in an infinite number of colors, shapes, patterns and even intricate light shows. The tighter the grid spacing the higher the resolution. LED nodes can be combined with a random spread of fiber optic stars for additional depth and effect. Drops currently on the market have been so manufactured.

The Light Systems Composer's software lets you create designs anywhere you can take your laptop. Choose from a library of visual effects or use your own images from other applications. Simply upload the finished design to the Light System Engine (LSE), an Ethernet-based hardware controller that stores and plays your show, and you're ready to go. With the LSE you can assign ways to trigger playback, including DMX signals and keypad inputs.

The advantages of the Soft-LED system are well worth it when compared with more traditional LED walls. The drop weighs in at only .2 lbs per square foot and all components can be placed in hampers and road cases for storage and touring. Set-up and tear down take only minutes.

Meyer Sound SIM 3

Meyer Sound has announced SIM 3, the latest version of its award-winning breakthrough system for measuring the performance of audio systems. SIM System 3 represents a major advance, increasing power and adding features while shrinking the physical package and reducing the price. SIM 3 aids equalization by displaying transfer functions: the difference signal resulting from comparison of the input to and output from a system. SIM 3's computational power allows it to be a true real-time system. In addition to its common application in sound system alignment, SIM 3 has many other uses: determining the frequency response of nearly any audio component, such as a processor; helping match the sound of a lavalier microphone with that of a standard, wired mike; verifying polarity of system components, even noise and distortion measurements. The SIM 3 hardware consists of the SIM 3 processor and one or more audio switchers. The new SIM 3 unifies the three previous versions of SIM into a single system but retains powerful SIM features such as the ability to simultaneously view three separate traces, for instance the console output, room mic, and the resulting transfer function. Numerous software options have been added in SIM 3 and navigation has been improved.
