The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) Annual Conference is set for August 18-20 at the Westin Hotel Seattle. This conference serves as forum for the lighting industry, with more than 50 papers, presented by the authors, focusing on the latest research in design theory, measurements and controls, photometry, daylighting, energy, calculations, and roadway lighting.
Educational seminars will cover indirect lighting techniques for offices, the new generation of distribution, design, and construction costs, and include design practice sessions on outdoor lighting, office lighting, video conference facilities lighting, and designing with metal-halide technology. A three-hour workshop entitled "Merchandising with Light" is slated for Sunday, August 17. On Tuesday, August 19, new products and services will be showcased in a presentation and manufacturers' tabletop exhibits.
The conference opens Monday, August 18, with the society's annual meeting, conducted by incoming IESNA president David Geyman (Clark Engineers, SW) and will feature a special keynote address by James Benya (principal, Pacific Lightworks) on "Where Have All the Lighting Professionals Gone?" Also on Monday, the IESNA will present its awards at a special luncheon. On Wednesday, August 20, at the 24th Annual International Illumination Design Awards (IIDA) luncheon, lighting designers and their work will be recognized. The IESNA Puget Sound Section membership will host the conference.
