IALD Holds Annual Meeting in Chicago

The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) heads to the Windy City for a few days of socializing, networking, and education. The IALD will hold its Annual Meeting and Conference November 14-17, 2002, at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago, IL. Located just off Michigan Avenue, along Chicago's Riverwalk overlooking the river and Lake Michigan, Hyatt's newly renovated flagship property is situated on the acclaimed “Magnificent Mile” conveniently located in the heart of downtown near restaurants, shopping, and museums. The atrium lobby provides a breathtaking locale for restaurants, and is home to “Big,” the longest freestanding bar in North America.

The meeting includes 10 exciting seminars coordinated by co-chairs Tom Tolen and director of education Mary Claire Frazier, IALD. Topics are targeted to professional development and include a panel discussion on urban lighting plans, seminars on sustainability, illumination in works of art, residential lighting, and a coaching workshop on presentation skills. Focus group and booth sessions with manufacturers will give all attendees time to visit over lunch and participate in small groups to discuss trends, new products, and new services. A gala Friday night reception featuring “Rays of Light,” a new light art exhibit, will be held at a beautiful new lighting showroom, hosted by Lightology. A festive Saturday morning breakfast will feature the announcement of election results, annual reports, and the induction of new fellows. André Tammes, IALD president, will host one last evening of great camaraderie and good conversation at the President's Reception. Registration includes all of these events, meals, and social activities.

The conference side of the meeting includes sessions with topics such as: Keeping the “Design” in Design-Build (moderator Peter Hugh, LC, Hugh Lighting Design); Outdoor Lighting: Changes on the Horizon (Nancy Clanton, IALD, Clanton and Associates); The Impact of Lighting on Urban Planning (moderator Robert Shook, IALD, LC, Schuler & Shook, Inc.); The Buck (Dawn Hollingsworth, IALD, Visual Terrain); Illumination in Works of Art (presenters Derek Porter, IALD, and Anne Lindberg, Derek Porter Studio); The Human Connection: Bring Your Presentations to Life!
