IALD benefit for education

The 17th annual IALD Awards dinner will be held Wednesday, May 10 (during Lightfair International 2000), at the Puck Building in New York City, from 7:00pm until midnight. This year, proceeds from the evening will go to benefit the IALD Education Trust Fund, which supports college and university lighting programs and activities. These include the sponsorship of the Teachers of Lighting Workshop in conjunction with the IESNA, curriculum development and other materials for lighting programs, a CD-ROM with the last five years' IALD Award winners, and various scholarships. "We know there are about 1,000 programs internationally where lighting is a component, from a three-hour course in an interior design program to a full professional degree," says Morag Fullilove, executive director of the IALD. "Our goal is to make sure people are getting the right information, and to interest people in lighting as a profession." Suzanne Mathews, wife of IALD Education Trust Fund board member Gilbert L. Mathews of Lucifer Lighting, chairs the IALD Awards benefit committee. Fred Oberkircher is chairman of the board.
