Hola! Welcome to Our Special Report on Latin America

From San Juan to Cape Horn, entertainment technology and design has played an increasingly important role in theatre, film, architecture, and theme parks. Manufacturers are discovering a largely untapped market; designers are discovering an array of tools never before seen in their toolboxes. The result is an explosion of new and innovative projects in countries as large as Brazil and as tiny as Puerto Rico. Whether this trend continues will be contingent more on the region's fragile economy than the ingenuity of its rich talent.

In conjunction with ExpoLatina, the new entertainment technology trade show geared toward the Latin American community (held in Miami May 5-7), we wanted to provide our readers with a taste of a few notable projects in Central and South America and the Caribbean. In addition to those seen in the ensuing pages--Latina superstar Olga Tanon in concert in Puerto Rico, the new Estacao Plaza themed retail space in Brazil, and the annual Vina del Mar Festival in Chile, plus a roundup of current architectural projects in the region--look for stories on other projects located throughout this month's issue, including a concert in Mexico City.
