At the Car Wash

Shell Spivey, owner of Happy Bays car wash of Springdale, AR, stands out from the competition with the use of architectural and LED lights in his bay.

Mike Gormley of Hollister, MO-based Theatreworks and Kelly Koster of Koster Designs lit the building's façade with four Chauvet Spectrum 250 architectural washlights. A marquee and the neon-like appearance of LED tubes frame the name “Happy Bays.” Additional equipment for the exterior and interior includes Chauvet LED COLORtubes, DMX-50 controllers, an LED-CHV COLORcontroller, mirror balls with motors and bubble machines, as well as Apollo Design dichroic glass filters, and Altman Wet Location 575W outdoor PARs.

Several relays kick the lighting on and off at each section of the bay as a car passes from area to area. Customers can tune in to a radio frequency that plays music from the “Happy Bays radio station” in sync with the lights inside the bays. The entire install is DMX-controlled via consoles for live effects, Gormley said.
