American DJ introduces the Dual Gem and Super Jewel, upgraded versions of two classic sound-activated moonflower effects. The Dual Gem is a double version of the Color Gem, which combines two moonflower effects. Casting twice the number of beams, it can cover a larger area. Upgraded features include an FX switch, for operation in sound active, static, or continuous rotation mode. The Super Jewel is similar to the Jewel, but has sharper optics, a spectrum of colors and a bigger beam spread to give it more power. It uses a 300W lamp and also features an FX switch.

American DJ introduces the XP-3, an affordable DMX-compatible fixture with a fully rotating head. Unlike a traditional automated fixture in which only the mirror moves, the XP-3s moving head can cover every inch of a room, even up to the ceiling. This type of light show has become the rage at many nightclubs, and now, with the XP-3, smaller venues can offer their patrons more visual excitement. The XP-3 features a fully rotating head, with pan and tilt. It uses four DMX channels, 17 gobos plus spot, six colors plus white, and four multi-colors, strobing in every color, and a sound activation mode.

VectorWorks Spotlight 9.5 is now available. The 9.5 update is the first version of VectorWorks to run natively under Mac OS X. The entire VectorWorks and Industry Series updates are free downloads for all registered VectorWorks 9 users. Addressed specifically in the 9.5 VectorWorks Spotlight update are printing, stability, and speed issues. Users will find extensive speed improvements in the areas of hidden line rendering, symbol manipulation, switching sheets, and printing. Long-time VectorWorks users will also be pleased to know that the Trim command has returned in its original form in 9.5. The 9.5 VectorWorks Industry Series takes advantage of Mac OS X’s new Aqua interface, as well as advanced features such as protected memory, preemptive multitasking, advanced memory management, and symmetric multiprocessing. Nemetschek North America acknowledges that a good portion of its installed base does not have the required bandwidth to download the 9.5 updates.
