The top products of the past year are here once again. Chosen by our panels of prestigious judges in three categories—lighting, projection, and sound—several months were spent debating the Live Design 2014-2015 Products Of The Year. Congratulations to the teams that developed these products and all those who support them. Lighting Product of the Year, Accessory is PRG ReNEW LED Light Engine.
The ReNEW is an LED light engine that works with the lens tube and shutter assembly of an ETC Source Four ellipsoidal, basically swapping the Source Four’s tungsten source and reflector assembly with a chip-on-board LED array, reflector, and lens that produces more than 8,200 lumens, drawing only 190W. The source is offered in two fixed color temperature options: ReNEW Tungsten with a 3,000K color temperature and the ReNEW Daylight at 5,700K, operable via one, two, or three channels of DMX control or in standalone mode. “This is definitely a step in the appropriate direction for this type of technology,” says one judge, while another commends its “good-looking flat field.”
