Lighting Plots For El Joven Frankenstein

When producer Alejandro Gou decided to bring the Broadway musical Young Frankenstein (El Joven Frankenstein) to Mexico City, he wanted to not just replicate the Broadway production but reimagine it. He cast Mexican television and stage stars the Mascabrothers as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Freddy Ortega) and Igor (German Ortega) and hired an international creative team headed up by director/choreographer James Kelly, an American who has been a resident musical theatre choreographer and director in Mexico for 20 years, to recreate the licensed original Stroman choreography, along with Mexico City set designers Sergio Villegas and Emilio Martínez Zurita de la Garza, lighting designer Jason Kantrowitz from New York City, and sound designer Gaston Briski from Argentina. Together, the team tackled the challenge of crafting a unique brand of Mel Brooks magic for Mexico.
