Desireé Carrillo has been resident lighting designer at The House Modesto, a mega church with TV broadcasts on Fox 40, for the past three years. She has consulted on lighting and stage designs for multiple churches all over California, and is currently attending CalArts for her MFA in lighting design.
She will make her LDI speaker debut with the session, The Differences Between Lighting Design For Houses Of Worship And The Theater.
“The goal of my session at LDI is to gain knowledge about the lighting industry from the house of worship side. When it comes to houses of worship vs. theatre, the hierarchy of command is very different,” explains Carrillo. “The creative freedom is different as well, and the view on finances is probably the biggest difference. Most houses of worship want things for either free or cheap, so figuring out how to get your idea across for a low cost is most of the battle. I will explain how to get your ideas across, how to budget effectively, and how to be creative while still staying within the respect of the church.”
