31 Days Of Plots: Sooner Routhier—Panic! At The Disco

Live Design's fifth annual 31 Days Of Plots features one production per day during the month of December 2022, highlighting a different lighting design, from across theatre, concert tours, corporate events, live for broadcast, and more, as we wind down 2022 and head toward the new year.

Panic! At The Disco's Viva Las Vengeance Tour kicked off in Austin Texas in September with production design and show direction by Sooner Routhier of Sooner Rae Creative

During Routhier's webcast with Live Design (watch on demand here) the designer called this production "so fun" and called our her team of collaborators. (Listed below.)

Here's what she had to say about the inspiration behind the design:

"The Viva Las Vengeance album is actually like a plunge down a wormhole of vintage music. There are so many influences from the1960s, 70s, early 80s music. The management came to us with a brief that they wanted three acts: The first act was hits, second act was the entire album, then the third act more hits. And they have a lot of hits. So we decided to build these pods [see plot, below]. They came down during one song with sparklers and it is really beautiful. It created this moving waterfall look. Once act one was finished with the hits, we plunge into this 1960s, 1970s game show aesthetic on stage with a gold rain curtain, which was really fun to play with. The entire 70s vintage palette was red, gold, amber, a crazy pale baby blue, teal and aqua."
