LDI2016 Awards Winners Announced

The LDI2016 Awards for Best Booth Design and Best Debuting Products Of The Year were presented in an awards ceremony at 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 22 on the LDI show floor at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Paky Award

The Paky Award was founded in honor of Mr. Pasquale “Paky” Quadri, one of the leaders of the international lighting industry who passed away two years ago, and was the honorary recipient of the first “Paky” award presented during LDI 2014. Sponsored by Clay Paky and A.C.T Lighting, this award will be presented annually to an individual who has made a major contribution to technology in the industry. This year, Brian Dowd, vice president of sales and marketing of A.C.T Lighting, presented the award to Richard Belliveau, founder and chief technology officer of High End Systems.

Booth Awards

The award for Best Small Booth goes to Show Sage/Dataton for making great use of a small space that really has impact showing off the software's projection capabilities. Lars Sandlund accepted the award.

For the first time (we think) ever, we are giving booth awards to sister companies.

One award went to GLP for Most Creative Use of Light for an exceptional and intricate light show designed by Matt Shimamoto. Mark Ravenhill and Matt Shimamoto of GLP accepted the award.

And the Best Product Presentation award went to Cosmic Truss because, well...a truss skull. David Park of Cosmic Truss accepted the award.

The award for Best Large Booth Design went to Blizzard Lighting and ModTruss, who have wowed the judges once again with a fun and inventive booth designed around a life-sized Rock 'em Sock 'em game. Patrick Santini and Steven Welton of Modtruss and Frank Luppino and Will Komassa of Blizzard Lighting accepted the award.

Best Debuting Products

There were so many great products this year that there were honorable mentions in several categories, which were not given lightly. 

Best Debuting Product: Sound

Honorable Mention: The Sound AOC and DMX DOC cat6 distribution devices by ProCo Sound.

Winning Sound Award: The LKO Hybrid Optical / Power Connector by Link SRL: For combining data and power, delivering in to a streamlined, single connector and cable system. Bob Vanden Burgt and Marco Piromalli accepted the award.

Best Debuting Product: Widget

Honorable Mention went to DMX-cat Control Analyze Test by City Theatrical Inc. Control, analyze, and test your moving and LED fixtures from your Smartphone over DMS or RDM.

And the winning widget is xVision Video Converter by Theatrixx Technologies, which provides a much-needed robust version of an industry-wide utilized device for video interconnection with a high degree of reliability. Gabriel Duschinsky accepted the award.

Best Debuting Product: Special Effects

Two Honorable Mentions:

Aqua Low Fog Vario 4 by MT-Electronic for innovation in safely producing low fog for indoor and outdoor high temperature situations without the use of CO2.

The judges also recognized Pangolin Laser Systems for continuing to raise the bar in laser control and display with their FB4 line of media servers and beyond design and control software.

The winner is the Sparkular FX Machine by Sparktacular: Sparkular’s jaw-dropping fountain display dazzles audiences with 5 meter high pyro-less, smoke-less, and odorless indoor fireworks that are easy and safe to set up and operator. Steve Freedman accepted the award.

Best Debuting Product: Staging And Rigging

Two Honorable Mentions: 

Rose Brand for their series of scenic automated devices: the DMX Scenery Rotator, Track Runner, and Winch 10 LX.  The judges look forward to future UL listed releases.

The judges also recognized ZFX’s electromagnetic, DMX controllable Kabuki Drop System providing ease of operation and triggering.

The winning product award went to Halo and Sky-Net fall protection systems by Total Structures: The judges were pleased to see how Total Structures is taking the lead in fall protection and life safety. Halo provides vertical and horizontal fall arrest for truss towers while Sky-Net is a load-tested net to minimize risk and harm while putting safety first. Adrian Forbes-Black accepted the award.

Best Debuting Product: Projection

Honorable Mention: The Datapath FX4-SDI (distributed by Green Hippo and TMB) for providing a cost effective and reliable solution for converting 4K computer display output to industry standard HD-SDI format.

The winning product award went to V3w by SquareV: a series of thoughtfully engineered large format LED screen tiles. Available in a range of pitches, these ruggedly designed tiles represent a commendable advancement in reliability, field serviceability, and image quality. Steve Spittle accepted the award.

Best Debuting Product: Lighting

Honorable Mention went to M8TRIX by PanelOLED Ltd. because it makes an adventurous step into the use of environmentally friendly OLED technology.

For lighting fixtures, there were two winners.

The winning Automated Fixture was Elation Professional’s Proteus Beam, recognized for the attention and advancement of IP weather protection in a quality automated fixture. Eric Loader of Elation Professional accepted the award.

The winning Conventional Fixture was the Chroma-Q Color Force 2, which shows a stunning face and elegant color mixing both as a smooth surface wash and as a clean visual look. John Fuller accepted the award.
