LDI Speaker Spotlight: Scott Sugden

As we gear up for the LDI Show, we’re profiling speakers in our LDI Amplify of presentations aimed at live sound engineers. This week, we’d like to introduce you to Scott Sugden, who will be presenting “Scaling from Pre-Production to Live Performance With L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound Technology” and “Immersive Audio Live Mixing Techniques: Inside Aerosmith's ‘Deuces Are Wild’ Las Vegas Residency.”

Scott Sugden is Head of US Touring Support at L-Acoustics, where he leads the company’s efforts in the areas of product and sound design support, technical training, system design, operation processes, and training and documentation development for L-Acoustics’ touring sound products.

Prior to joining L-Acoustics, Sugden spent time as a systems engineer for Clearwing Productions, Masque Sound, and PRG Audio, as well as on touring off-Broadway productions of The Producers, Spamalot, and 700 Sundays.

Live Design: What was your first live sound gig?

Scott Sugden: I started live sound in high school with musicals; I think the first show I mixed was The Sound of Music.

LD: What can attendees expect to learn in your presentation?

SS: They’ll learn how Immersive Hyperreal sound can go from small to large; the challenges of immersive shows at scale are not apparent in small spaces like studios and cinema; and about the future of our industry—specifically, how we will improve the process of sound design and mixing.

LD: What new sound technologies are you most excited about lately?

SS: Projection mapping and tracking solutions are really exciting as they allow for a whole new level of integration with sound, especially up-to-date technologies like L-ISA.

LD: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

SS: Slow down! It is really important to take your time and be sure you have the right answer, versus the first one.
