Hands-on Training at its Best

Taking a break today from my usual how-tos and product reviews because I want to talk up the hands-on training we’ve got going on as part of the LDInstitute, which I manage, at LDI in Orlando. We’ve tried hard this year to bring you more and better-developed training in lighting consoles, media servers, and system integration than ever before, and I hope you will forgive the shameless plug.

Two major changes make this year different than previous years: integration and accessibility.

By “integration,” I am referring to the chance to participate in a more complete experience in a training scenario. We are offering two classes this year that are giving participants for the first time a chance to work with all the components of the lighting system simultaneously. The first, Integrated Control: Setup and Programming with PRG, will walk through setting up and configuring Bad Boy luminaires, the Series 400 power and data distribution system, and Mbox Extreme media servers in addition to providing console programming experience on the new V676. The Fusion/Philips session will showcase the unique possibilities that occur when Philips product lines work together, featuring Strand consoles, Selecon instruments, Vari-Lite luminaires, and Color Kinetics LED fixtures all seamlessly integrating in to a unified whole.

In terms of accessibility, not only are we offering more classes than ever on many of the most popular and cutting-edge lighting consoles and media servers in the industry, we are now offering access to them at a lower price and at a more convenient time for those attendees than can’t spend the entire week with us in Orlando. ETC’s Ion console, the Hippotizer, the grandMA from MA Lighting (offered by ACT Lighting), and Strand Palette consoles will all be featured in half-day classes during the expo floor weekend at a more affordable price point than the full-day courses earlier in the week. These classes are a great way to get introduced to some of the industry’s hottest systems.
