LDI kicks off with Backstage Las Vegas, an exciting, fact-filled insider’s look at what’s happening in Las Vegas, home to some of the most challenging applications for cutting-edge entertainment design and technology. Go behind the scenes to meet the creative and technical teams that make it all possible, from two great shows by Cirque du Soleil — Zarkana and Michael Jackson ONE — to the rock ‘n roll sounds of Rock of Ages, with tours of theatres and clubs. Backstage Las Vegas is produced in conjunction with Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas… another great opportunity to network with industry professionals!

9:30pm Cirque du Soleil: Zarkana

Zarkana by Cirque du Soleil is an acrobatic rock experience that blends circus arts with the surreal to create a world where physical virtuosity rubs shoulders with the strange. Zark, the ringmaster of an extraordinary circus coming back to life, guides us in an abandoned theatre populated by a motley collection of off-the-wall characters and incomparable acrobats. Among other attractions, he introduces the Mutants, four sirens as sinister as they are fabulous. Zarkana is a visual vortex set in a twisted musical and acrobatic fantasy universe where, little by little, chaos and craziness give way to a true celebration. The Zarkana design team includes: Stéphane Roy, sets and props; Raymond St-Jean, projections: Alan Hranitlj, costumes; Steven Dubuc, sound.

Michael Jackson ONE is a sonic, tonic fusion of acrobatics, dance and visuals that takes the audience on an immersive journey through the music and spirit of Michael Jackson. Driven by Michael's powerful, multi-layered music – heard like never before in a riveting, state-of-the-art surround-sound environment —ONE takes the audience through a series of seamless visual and musical tableaux, at the heart of a world that is in turn majestic, playful, magical and heart-warming. In Michael Jackson ONE, Michael's spirit is channeled through the vibrant energy of the cast of 63 dancers and performers, underscored by aerial performance, driving acrobatics, and vivid choreographies that use the urban/hip hop idiom as a springboard for exploration. ONE is heartfelt tribute to the work, innovative spirit, and legacy of Michael Jackson – the King of Pop, the genius, the visionary, the One.
