Shining a Light on Monument Circle in Indianapolis

Coming soon to the Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis is Shining A Light, a 240,000 lumen, 4K laser video projection system that will display video content on two buildings on the southeast side of the Circle, digitally-mapped via 3D laser scanning. The installation is funded by The Lilly Endowment, which gave $7.6 million to Downtown Indy and the Indiana War Memorials Commission, as part of a total $48.8 million for its initiative "Strengthening Indianapolis Through Arts and Cultural Innovation." The project will debut November 9 with the premiere of "Signature Salute," a lighting and video show, featuring original music by John Colby and recorded by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Running nightly from November through March, it will honor past and present military service members.

"The tech and all the below-the-line is handled by Dodd Technologies and spearheaded by Mark Dodd," says Terry Lingner of creative agency Innovative. "Myself, Conrad Piccirillo and Shawn Mollet here at Innovative are handling content and conception. The install will also benefit big events coming to Indy such as the ’21 NBA All-Star Game,  The Final Four and the National Football Championship."

"This will be the largest projection in the city and state’s history," adds Piccirillo. "Now, Indiana and Indianapolis will have a recognizable beacon that will light a path for the world to see us, right here."
