Jason Sherwood made his Oscars set design debut at the 92nd annual Academy Awards ceremony with a dazzling set that glittered with over 40,000 Swarovski crystals, which were incorporated into three key scenic elements. The 1,100lb-Crystal Inner Spiral featured hundreds of crystal strands, comprising 12,000 precision-cut Swarovski crystals. The crystal closedown included both a 60'x40', 600lb-Crystal Curtain and a 14'x38', 1,325lb-Crystal Tower, which alone boasted 28,000 Swarovski crystals.

"Classy, elegant, and beautiful describes the 2020 Academy Awards scenery. The set, which makes excellent use of the full width and height of the Dolby Theatre stage and proscenium opening, creates a powerful frame with its oval-shaped false proscenium, to powerfully draw focus to center stage. The arches that continue the look deep into the theater harmonize well with the theater’s own outstanding architecture. The set appears to be part of the building. It doesn’t hurt to have 40,000 Swarovski crystals available to adorn one’s set, but they must be used well, and this design did. This scenery is a work of art and deserved nomination." — Jeff Ravitz, lighting designer and judge for the Design Achievement Awards
