Madison Area Technical College Revitalizes Broadcast Studio with Adorama Business Solutions

Madison Area Technical College recently enlisted Adorama Business Solutions, the premier technology resource for corporate, educational, and government institutions, to upgrade its broadcast studio. Looking to better serve the school’s existing student population as well as attract new prospective students, Madison College revitalized its studio to expand course offerings and allow new content creation options.

Largely used by Visual Communications students, the broadcast studio featured a multi-camera switching system that offered crew capabilities, but had the limitation of recording to tape, and was deemed antiquated. The college decided it needed to update to a live streaming set-up to enable students’ greater flexibility in the type of broadcasts they can produce.

The first stage of Madison College’s broadcast studio updates was to build a workable fly pack for easy transportation around the school. Adorama Business Solutions worked with Madison College to recommend the best gear suited to their livestream needs. Selected equipment included: Allen & Heath QU-16 Rackmountable 16 Channel Digital Touchscreen, Autoscript Epic-IP On-Camera Package with 15’’ Prompt & 15’’ Talent Monitor, NewTek NDIHX-PTZ1 NDI PTZ Camera, Sony PXW-FS5M2 4K XDCAM Camcorder & 18-105 mm f/4 G OSS Lens, and NewTek TC1LP Large 24-Button Control Panel for TriCaster TC1 Systems.

Adorama’s Technical Services team built out and tested the kit remotely before shipping to the school to ensure a seamless delivery experience. They also held three days of training on the new gear for the Madison College team, customized to the specific needs of the school.

“The Adorama Business Solutions team really came through with our recent broadcast system purchase,” said Todd Bowie, Communications Liaison at Madison College. “At a large and busy educational institution like ours, finding extra hours to research new equipment options can be challenging for faculty and staff. The Adorama team took a look at our requirements and budget and offered several options that would best fit our needs. Our end goal is to work with Adorama Business Solutions to have a full broadcast studio set-up with a news desk and lighting, which will help set us apart from other higher educational institutions in the greater Madison area.”

With stage one now in place, new curricula can be implemented for students to learn the different elements of live television production, both behind and in front of the camera. The new fly pack gear set-up has given students and staff the ability to record and stream events to the web, like graduation ceremonies, and produce original content like cooking shows.
