Dataton WATCHOUT version 6 gives worship event producers, integrators and set designers access to an outstanding creative toolbox for impressive multi-projector shows with interaction and mapping. With live edit, an open-arms approach to incoming media, and an intuitive workflow, WATCHOUT 6 opens up new possibilities for worship applications, large and small.
The most significant upgrade in the 15-year history of Dataton’s multi-display production and playback software, WATCHOUT 6 provides strong productivity features and capabilities for advanced projection mapping, uncompressed multiple-source video playback, 3D media and modeling, and pre-visualization. And it’s all fronted by an enhanced user interface designed specifically with operators of live shows in mind. WATCHOUT orchestrates still images, animations, graphics, video, sound and live feeds into a single impressive show across multiple display areas, either soft-edge blended or scattered. It’s fully scalable, software-based and requires no proprietary hardware. WATCHOUT version 6 adds a range of new features and vastly improves workflow for producers of complex projection scenarios.
With more and more show producers bringing 3D objects or irregular projection surfaces into their events, WATCHOUT 6 offers a smart solution with virtual projectors placed around a 3D object on screen, and re-positioned to create the perfect projection setup. Marker-based calibration matches the on-screen setup with the real-world object, making it easier for producers to put their ideas into effect with utmost precision, minus the headaches. Other major creative advantages include being able to drag standard 3D model file formats straight into a WATCHOUT show, apply different content to individual 3D mesh areas for maximum creative effect, and custom blending masks for unusual projection surfaces. WATCHOUT 6 offers pre-visualization, using 3D models as props to create a realistic simulation of the entire presentation environment onscreen, particularly useful for busy, multi-purpose places of worship.
eamed with the new 3D Projector feature, producers can get a multi-camera view of the stage from different perspectives. That means integrators, clients and producers will already know how the stage looks from different audience angles before arriving on site, saving valuable setup time. For every video technician who has ever battled with different video formats from different clients, WATCHOUT now supports high-end uncompressed formats such as V210 and Apple ProRes, and popular HAP codecs to streamline the show-making process. This open-ended approach takes away the last minute stress often associated with incoming mixed assets. Other smart features include frame-rate control giving the option of slowing down an animation or adapting the duration of a clip to fit a show while maintaining smooth playback. To make the playback process even smoother, WATCHOUT 6 also plays uncompressed image sequences at full resolution and frame-rate from a fast hard-drive, removing the need for time-consuming encoding of 3D or After Effects renderings. Audio aficionados will appreciate being able to route and control channels in multi-channel audio files to different outputs for outstanding sound effects throughout the place of worship.
The new live update feature streamlines show editing: changes are seen immediately which speeds up precise editing and positioning of content on stage. WATCHOUT 6 also works with HTML5-based web content, as well as stills and Flash content, for on-screen live feeds to add extra dynamics to a show. WATCHOUT 6 has undergone a major facelift on the outside. The whole user interface look is darker and therefore easier on the eye in the typical low-light show environment. The clear and uncluttered user interface is in the best Scandinavian design tradition. WATCHOUT is available in the US through Showsage, LLC.
