Crestron has announced that its new 3-Series control systems can now support the BACnet communication protocol. Now with on-board BACnet/IP support, the 3-Series control systems offer a scalable, IP-based platform for integrated building management and automation. Integrating effortlessly with other building management systems and BACnet devices, the Crestron control system can be used as a means of communication between independently run lighting, shading, HVAC, A/V, BMS, security, IT and other connected systems.
Developed with the support of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, BACnet is a communications protocol that is not only an American standard, but a standard in Europe as well as more than thirty other countries. In addition, it is an ISO global standard. BACnet is not limited as a communication protocol for only HVAC systems, it can also be used with fire and life safety as well as lighting control and other building automation systems.
With BACnet support, 3-Series control systems can control up to fifty objects at no extra charge. However, for control over unlimited objects, customers must buy an enterprise license, which costs $1,000.
