Music recognition app Shazam, which was acquired by Apple in 2018, has come to the rescue of many a music fan over the years with its ability to identify songs that are playing, along with their artists. Its technology has continually been enhanced, and in some cases, it can now recognize songs in under a second.
To further enhance its music-related offerings, Shazam has teamed up with concert discovery platform Bandsintown to launch a host of new concert features, allowing users to explore upcoming live shows in their area when they use the app. Fans can find information about and tickets for shows when they Shazam a song or search for it on the Shazam app or website. Artists must register with Bandsintown for their event details to be findable via Shazam.
“As live music returns, we’re on a mission to help artists get more visibility for their shows,” said Bandsintown Managing Partner Fabrice Sergent in a blog post. “Pent up demand from fans eager to go back to concerts is being met by an unprecedented level of live shows from artists on tour.”
Users can also find dates, times, and locations of future shows and add them to their calendars via Shazam artist pages. Music discovery is increasingly being prioritized by many platforms, old and new, particularly as we get back to in-person. This development seems like a natural progression for Shazam, which already allows fans to discover new music that they can easily play on Spotify. Now, they will be able to find where to hear those songs or artists live.
“Shazam has a long history of innovation in music discovery and connecting artists and fans,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s Vice President of Apple Music and Beats, in a statement. “With the re-emergence of live music, we’re excited to give Shazam users access to concerts and bring even more discoverability to artists.”
