Katia Carmichael

Bio:

Katia Carmichael is a Design Associate at J&M Special Effects, where she coordinates and contributes to special effects for Broadway, live events, and immersive productions. She plays a key role in managing projects across disciplines and time zones, collaborating with creative teams, departments, and clients to ensure seamless execution from concept through installation, while upholding rigorous safety standards including FDNY and Actors’ Equity guidelines.

Her work spans Broadway, Off-Broadway, international productions, and museum installations, with notable projects including The Outsiders (2023 Tony Award–winning Best Musical), The Greatest Showman (Disney Theatrical Group), and the 2023 MTV VMAs performance featuring Doja Cat. Katia also supports design development, documentation, and on-site implementation, and frequently steps into a design role to provide creative and technical guidance when needed.

In addition to her production work, Katia develops internal systems and workflows for the design department, overseeing scheduling, budgeting, and communication structures, and maintaining detailed records and design archives. Her work reflects a strong commitment to collaboration, organization, and innovative storytelling through special effects.
