More than 100,000 of Barco LEDs lit the stage at this year's Junior Eurovision Song contest held at the new Ethias Arena in Hasselt, Belgium. Barco rental partner XL Video Belgium designed and installed a mixture of ILite 6 LED tiles and MiPIX LED building blocks. The lighting set was designed buy Michiel Mibou.
XL Video Belgium supplied the screens, including a curved video effect banner hanging above the stage made up of 44x6 tiles of Barco ILite 6XP. This is a 120° curved screen with a total viewing angle from approximately 180° with 140º viewing angle. XL Video made a special framework for the tiles to be mounted on. The screen was controlled by the Barco Encore Presentation System.
There were seven vertical effect banners with a mix of MiPIX and ILite 6XP, which were also mounted on tailor-made framework and another curved screen consisting of 40x3 tiles of ILite 6XP.
A total of 71 artists from 16 countries took part in the 2005 contest. The show, broadcast by VRT and RTBF, was seen by a live audience of 8,500 people and even Belguim’s Prince Laurent attended. Kseniya Sitnik won the title with the song “We Are Together.” Second place went to Antonio José from Spain with Norway’s Malin in third.
