Ticketmaster's Developing Plan to Check Fans' Vaccine Status Before Events

Event ticketing company Ticketmaster is developing a plan to ensure post-pandemic fan safety that involves verifying eventgoers' vaccination status or negative COVID-19 test results within 24 to 72 hours prior to the event, according to CBS Los Angeles.

The plan thus far includes three key components:

  • Ticketmaster's digital ticket app;
  • third party health information companies;
  • testing and vaccine distribution providers.

If approved, here's how the process would unfold:

  1. Purchase a ticket.
  2. Provide proof of vaccination.
    1. Vaccination could provide approximately one year of protection.
  3. Or provide negative test results within 24 to 72 hours before event.
    1. The amount of test time would be governed by regional health authorities.
  4. Instruct the testing clinic to deliver the results to the health pass company.
  5. If test is negative or fan is vaccinated, the health pass company will verify the attendee with Ticketmaster.
    1. Ticketmaster will issue the fan's credentials to access the event.
  6. If test is positive or the fan is not vaccinated, Ticketmaster will not issue that fan's credentials.

While the Food and Drug Administration has yet to approve the plan and details are still developing, Ticketmaster says it will not store medical records and all health data will be updated in "a secure, encrypted way that complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)," according to Billboard.
